The Ontario Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program helps adults in Ontario to develop and apply communication, numeracy, interpersonal and digital skills to achieve their goals. The LBS program serves learners who have goals to successfully transition to employment, postsecondary, apprenticeship, secondary school, and increased independence. The program includes learners who may have a range of barriers to learning.
The Continuing Education Department offers different pathways to help individuals earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or to prepare for college or university entrance. Programs include Co-operative Education, Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR), and Independent Study.

Around the School
Words from our Students
"Using the information we learned in the Thessalon Continuing Education Centre, we recently published our first book, "My Tree, My Forest." We also have two more books in the works, due out early 2019. We wanted to send a thank-you for your training! The course was short, easy to follow and had practical use for us to continue employment while loving northern living.”
- Pat and Dan Kerr
"I've been at the Thessalon Adult Learning Centre for one year and five months. I worked on reading and writing including math and I also did a computer course. What I like about the school is there's no bullying, you only go to school for 2 hours, and there is new technology. I would tell students to come (or should I say 100 students to come!) because it is good for them and it's fair and you even get special food delights on special days."
- Josh Trivers
"In our Adult Learning Centre everyone is equally important, everyday when you walk through the door you get to start off fresh, clean slate, no judging and we always encourage everyone to be GREAT!"
