The Ontario Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program helps adults in Ontario to develop and apply communication, numeracy, interpersonal and digital skills to achieve their goals. The LBS program serves learners who have goals to successfully transition to employment, postsecondary, apprenticeship, secondary school, and increased independence. The program includes learners who may have a range of barriers to learning.
The Continuing Education Department offers different pathways to help individuals earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or to prepare for college or university entrance. Programs include Co-operative Education, Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR), and Independent Study.

I am excited about applying the many accounting courses I took in the computers course because I am now able to apply for bookkeeping jobs right in town.

I am glad that I was able to take the Sewing course. I was able to take some of the training home and put into practice. I bought a sewing machine.

If it weren't for the opportunity Adult Ed offers, many people, young and older alike, would be lost. Continuing education is lifelong learning at Adult Ed.

It’s been a life changing eye opener that I won't soon forget. Received my OSSD at age 74. Never too late.

Adult Ed is a great place to work. It’s quiet and the staff are amazing. They treat you with respect and act like you are one of them. They teach you many different skills and life lessons. In Adult Ed, you're one of them – it’s not just a place to learn, it’s a place to interact with people and enjoy learning. And it will forever be my safe place to go when I need it, because I know it will always be here to help me if I fall.

I attended the centre for approximately 5 months, I was doing a refresher course to prepare for an online college program, which I am currently enrolled in. I was very skeptical about reentering the education system as I had not been back to school in many years. The staff and the instructors at Adult Ed gave me the much-needed confidence to pursue my goals. The setting there is a calm atmosphere, I was able to work at my own pace, and get any help as well as any resources that I needed. Everyone that attended was on their own personal program, which was fitted to meet each individual's needs. I would highly recommend the Adult Learning Centre. Also, even though I have finished what I wanted to accomplish there, I am sure I would be welcomed back with any concerns or problems that I may encounter with my current studies. Thank you for making this transition enjoyable.

My experience at the Adult Education Centre is great. The school is bright and very clean. The teachers are so nice, friendly and very helpful and funny. It took me forty-five years to go back to school for my diploma, and I am working very hard on math and English, and the computer. I am very proud of myself. Thank you, Maria and Jane for helping me make it a reality.
